koi ummid bar nahi aati
koi suurat nazar nahi aati

maut ka ek din muayyan hai
neend kyun raat bhar nahi aati

aage aati thi haal-e-dil pe hansi
ab kisi baat par nahi aati

hai kuch aisi hi baat jo chup hoon
varna kya baat kar nahi aati

hum wahan hain jahaan se hum ko bhi
kuch hamaari khabar nahi aati

kaaba kis muunh se jaaoge Ghalib
sharm tumko magar nahi aati

Treat your life as a sea,

Heart as the sea shore and friends as waves.

It never matters how many waves arise in the sea,

What matters is how many have touched the seashore.
